Flying Horse Farms Receives Kateswell Grant
Kids are not defined by their challenges, including health issues. Shouldn’t all kids be able to enjoy a fun family camp experience? Enter Flying Horse Farms, an Ohio nonprofit camp for families with children facing serious health issues like cancer. The camp serves children ages 8 to 17 to offer a family camp for children facing serious medical conditions including cancer – at no charge!
The Kateswell grant awarded to Flying Horse Farms helps support this nonprofit and families like the DeCarlo's, pictured here, whose son Evan was diagnosed with cancer at age 10.
“Sending Even to camp was absolutely the right decision," Evan's mom said. "The kids loved that they could do whatever they wanted without me constantly watching over them. Plus, Evan and his new camp friends never had to talk about what they had been through. They all just immediately understood each other. It was amazing.”
This innovative nonprofit is the first camp in the Midwest to become a member of the SeriousFun Children’s Network, a global community of camps founded by actor, philanthropist, and Shaker Heights Ohio native, Paul Newman.
Established partnerships with Ohio hospitals make it possible including
Akron Children’s Hospital, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Cleveland Clinic Children’s, Dayton Children’s Hospital, Mercy Children’s Hospital, Nationwide Children’s Hospital ProMedica Toledo Children’s Hospital, and Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, as well as Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Pretty awesome, right?
